Bordeaux Rosé French Blue 2018

Bordeaux Rosé French Blue

Bordeaux Rosé French Blue

A while ago (in March), I read about this rosé on Odedi’s Wine Reviews Blog [here], he advised it as a nice rosé from Bordeaux so I wanted to try it, furthermore being a Bordeaux rosé which I have never had, but I couldn’t find it at my usual wine joints. In June I could finally get my hands on it and couldn’t wait to taste it.

It’s a generic Bordeaux, 12.5% vol, 80% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot.

In the bottle it’s salmon pink with a very dense color. Less dense in the glass but the same salmon pink hue. No rim, no legs.

Nose of rose flowers, pink grapefruit (ruby grapefruit), very delicate.

In mouth nice acidity and freshness, it feels crisp and refreshing, almost a grapefruit juice — without the texture of course — with this slight pleasant bitterness that makes it very refreshing, in addition to its acidity. Acidity and bitter taste are well balanced all together. Slightly fizzy, a hint of strawberry then citrus notes, mainly ruby grapefruit in the middle and after mouth. After mouth shows a hint of mineral notes too.

A very dry wine, not sweet at all, all in the freshness : acidity plus bitterness and citrus notes. A rose flower note as a finale way after swallowing, which makes it surprisingly long in mouth.

A very pleasant wine for the summer even if it’s not very complex (just a couple of flavors). I can see myself having it all summer long with simple summer meals such as salads and light grilled fish or white meat, specially for its price ($10 at my usual joint Stirling Fine Wines).

After my tasting (in July), I paired it with grilled chicken and a mix of green beans and couscous semolina.
