Michael David Winery Rosé Lodi California 2022

Michael David Winery Rosé Lodi California 2022

This early November I was browsing through the rosé aisles at my usual wine joint, Stirling Fines Wines, to buy some rosé for the winter season when this bottle caught my eyes. It’s a very nice bottle, I kept the empty bottle after finishing the wine as a water jug. I didn’t know this rosé but I already had some Michael David wines that I enjoyed so I figured I could give it a shot. Read here for the Michael David wines I reviewed : https://wineinamerica.wordpress.com/?s=michael+david

Price here in central New Jersey was $13.

12.5% vol. Vintage 2022. Under cork. The tasting was done in my wine glasses from Le Deux Glassware.

Bright pink leaning towards orange salmon, thin bright pink rim, short irregular legs.

Nose of strawberries, both green and powdery strawberries like in the Haribo Tagada candy. Also raspberry and other red fruits. Very fruity and pleasant on the nose.

In mouth : some strawberries, both green and powdery, very fruity but crisp and fresh at the same time. A mouthful of fruits but not aggressive : it’s like eating a strawberry or red fruit salad in the summer. A tad bitterness but very subtle in the middle mouth, then the fruits linger in mouth very pleasantly.

I am very happy to have found this rosé. I will buy it again (right now) and hopefully it will remain readily available year in and year out and also throughout the winter season not only in summer, and won’t vanish like most rosés tend to do here in my neck of the woods these past years. I love this one a lot and the price is reasonable. Michael David Winery didn’t disappoint for this wine.

After the tasting we paired it with a vegetable curry that I made from Sheree’s recipe, excellent too ! My kids had friends over and everyone enjoyed both the wine and the curry. (the only downside is that we had only that one bottle of this rosé.)

You can find this delicious curry recipe here :

Sounds like the type of evening for which good wines were made! Thank you for sharing the recommendation! We had good luck with a local (for us) Virginia wine from Eastwood Winery – a 2022 Viognier. Had never found such a good local white wine, and I hope I don’t find it too often because even on sale it was too expensive. Still, it’s hard to resist a local delicacy during holiday season.

thank you for you comment. Yes this wine suited the evening perfectly. Thank you also for the wine reference (I usually enjoy a good Viognier). I don’t know if it’s sold on my neck of the woods, I will look for it. I have seen it on the winemaker website and I agree it’s on the pricey side also for me. My limit is usually 15$, stretching towards 18$ and 19$ nowadays with inflation. But most of my regular wines are in the 10-13$ range. Cheers !
